In
addition to the juggling, magic, comedy, music, acrobatics,
comedy, spoken word, more music, and more juggling,
and even more comedy, we had a photo exhibit from Chautauqua's
recently-completed Jambalaya Vaudeville Tour to the
gulf states affected by Hurricane Katrina.
In
April, a troupe of 53 Chautauquans - including many
of the entertainers appearing in this Eugene show -
performed for hurricane survivors and relief workers
in New Orleans and along the Mississippi Coast. They
also helped out at community kitchens and provided demolition/reconstruction
assistance.
This
evening provided a chance to discuss that amazing experience
with folks who were there, amongst the ongoing devastation
and rebuilding.

A wild & zany Vaudeville Show and a down-home Southern
meal - what a combo!
The
Mayor of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, provided us with
special recipes - his famous Jambalaya and his Mama's scrumptious
Lemon Pie.
These
shows raised funds for Chautauqua's Jambalaya Tour
(late-April, see above) in which we will present free Vaudeville
Shows and Workshops in New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish,
Louisiana, and Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Our
show included entertainers commonly referred to, by
ourselves (and the local constabulary,) as The Usual
Suspects. There were some surprise guests as well. In
point of fact, they were so surprising that not even
we know who they were.

Tickets were available, online, at BrownPaperTickets.com
Note:
Although we appeared only on April 2nd, our friends
at the Moisture Festival presented many wonderful shows from
March 21st thru April 9th.

Chautauqua's
Jambalaya Tour
The cities of Pass Christian, Waveland and
Bay St. Louis, MS, were in the heart of the destruction
wrought by Hurricane Katrina - all three towns were severely
damaged by the winds and ensuing flood waters.
St.
Bernard Parish and New Orleans, LA, were flooded
with the failure of the levees. Some portions were underwater
for weeks. It is now many months later and large areas remain
as devastated
and chaotic as they were in September of 2005.
When
not performing, Chautauquans pitched-in and helped wherever
needed - gutting houses, working in kitchens, staffing phones,
entering data...
