New
Old Time Chautauqua's Mission focuses
on building community. One way we do this is by interacting with
diverse communities, particularly in under-served areas.
In
this light, we are proud to be a part of the grassroots efforts
helping those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.
In
late April of 2006, marvelous artists*
from all over the U.S. presented free Vaudeville Shows and Workshops
for Hurricane Survivors and Relief Workers in New Orleans and
Mississippi - done for the enjoyment of children, adults, firemen,
national guardsmen, local officials, the homeless - anyone and
everyone who wanted to share in some laughter and fun.
There
is still an incredible amount of work to be done in the Gulf
Region - gutting and repairing homes, clearing debris, distributing
food, clothing and supplies, preparing meals, etc. When not performing,
Chautauquans worked with relief agencies, helping wherever help
was needed, doing whatever needed to be done.
